CFA Steel Fire Tanks – BMO Bushfire Tanks

As more homes are being built in rural and semi-rural settings, local councils are requiring CFA Fire water tanks. The Bushfire Management Overlay or BMO will detail which areas are in the zone. Properties will be provided with a BAL rating (bushfire attack level). This will dictate the size of the Bushfire tank or CFA fire tank required. One requirement when building in these zones is to create a bushfire management plan. This plan must provide information for on-site water supply. Bushfire tanks are required in these situations. On-site water is required in an aboveground steel or concrete tank. The capacity is dictated by your Bushfire Managment Plan. Most commonly these are 5,000 litres or 10,000 litres. Outlets of the tank must be within 4 metres of the access way and unobstructed. The is a requirement for a CFA fire fitting which is a 3 thread 64 millimetre male fitting.

To satisfy councils above ground static water supply we have packaged various tanks with CFA fire fittings to comply. These tanks are designed for the CFA fire tank to have access to the 65mm CFA fire fitting. It is the responsibility of the installer and home-owner to select fitting locations.

Things to Consider:

Consider a combined CFA fire Tank (BMO fire Tank) with a domestic tank – Often customers will combine the CFA fire requirements and their own domestic requirements and purchase a larger steel water tank. Customers would then insert a domestic fitting. As an example – If the CFA water tank has 10,000 litres of designated water. then a smart idea would be to order a 20,000 litre tank and insert a domestic fitting at the 10,000 litre mark from the bottom. This enables the top 10,000 litres of water to be available for domestic purposes like toilets or garden. This results in the lowest water in the tank being designated for CFA water only.
