An Underground Water Tank is simply a water tank that is installed in-ground. The purpose of an in-ground water tank is to harvest and store rainwater for future use.
Not all water tanks can be installed underground. In-ground water tanks are designed with reinforced walls designed to withstand the inward pressure of soil on the tank.
Why install Underground Water Tanks?
The greatest benefit of installing a below ground water tank is space saving measures. Any property that is constrained by space will benefit hugely using an in-ground tank.
Nowadays many new build duplex sites will install beneath ground tanks under the driveway.
Another huge benefit is that they leave very little foot-print. Often the only visible sign that there is a water tank beneath the ground is the 500mm lid.
Inground tanks also avoid the eyesore of an above ground tank. We all know that there is no way of hiding a 5000 litre water tank in a backyard. Being practical, water tanks are not always beautiful.
Underground Water Tanks also benefit from temperature regulation. The soil acts like an esky and insulates the water to be kept at a more constant temperature. This in turn reduces the change of algae growth.
Where Can I install an In-ground Water Tank?
Beneath ground water tanks can be installed in most locations. For domestic application most installations occur in the back yard, under the car port, under the drive-way and even under a deck. Beneath ground water tanks come with different lids. Lids for foot traffic and Road Traffic are available.
In regards to Commercial application in-ground water tanks can be adapted to suit 150mm pipework. Often a Gatic Grate will be used for Trafficable areas.
What Pump is Required?
In-ground water tanks are accompanied by a Submersible Pump. Ensure the submersible water pump chosen has sufficient pressure to pump water from a below ground situation ie basement or garage to an upstairs toilet or laundry.
What Size Underground Tanks are available?
The 5000 litre tank is our best-selling beneath ground tank closely followed by the 3000 Litre. New to the market is the 2000L tank which is mostly used in domestic application. In-ground tanks can be easily joined to double the liters. Retention and Detentions can also be achieved with underground water tanks.
